DENTAL FEVER DREAM (2025)
for 2 Eb alto saxophones with live electronics, 2 electric guitars with electric toothbrushes, talkbox, synthesizer, and carousel slide projector
Program notes:
DENTAL FEVER DREAM is… well… just that. The inside of a mouth is such a visceral, intimate sight, a part of the body so rarely seen in full that when presented on its own detaches itself from polite humanity. A tooth can mean so many things: wildness, wisdom, anger, joy, pain, laughter, decay, youth, failure. We are confronted with personal responsibility, vulnerability, and mortality each time we visit the dentist… or a bathroom mirror. This piece uses auditory, visual, and performative aspects of ritualized oral hygiene traditions to honor these strange little bone-like things that live in our mouths.
